WHY did Charles DARWIN further the evolution argument?

Seeing it wasn't him who created it but really he is like Henry Ford and the automobile, while he wasn't the creator of such he is credited with it though…
Darwin furthered it? What was his intent?
DID he really want to disprove GOD? WAS he really a MASON?
