2001 Ford Escort ZX2. We went to the store briefly and when we returned about 10 minutes later, I noticed that it had leaked a few ounces of antifreeze. I couldn't tell immediately where it was coming from, as it appears to be dripping from one of the lower "pointed" parts of a black guard that is bolted on. Even with the car off, it was dripping every 3-4 seconds or so. We started back up, finished a few local errands and came back home. With it running, I no longer saw it leaking at all. Not a single drip from the place where it was dripping. When it was turned off, I no longer saw any drip then, either.
Any ideas? I'm planning to let it cool off for a bit and then jack it up and take the guard off to see if maybe it is the hose joining the radiator or water pump.
I did notice one thing… The level of antifreeze in the overflow part in the back was below the "full" mark. I also noticed what looked like a fresh green trickle down the front side of the plastic overflow, as if it had leaked something (but I see nothing wrong with the overflow itself). However, that is in the back near the firewall… So I'm trying to figure out how that would be dripping way up there where the water pump and radiator hose would be.
