I lost a key to my 2014 Ford Focus. I thought the spare was at my parent's house, but it's not there either. I called a locksmith and they said that I had to go through a Ford dealer to get a new key made… And the Ford dealer told me it's going to be upwards of $600 just to get a replacement. $200 for each key, and you apparently HAVE to buy at least 2… So that's $400 just for keys. Then it's another $100 for "labor" because they have to "reprogram my car". And then it's another $100 for them to tow my car to the dealer because they can't come to me and do it like any other locksmith would.
Is this for real? Why are they so expensive? I chose a Ford because they're generally pretty affordable cars, so this is making me incredibly disappointed with the company. We all know those keys cost less than $30 to make.
Added (1). *Note*
My car is NOT equipped with the "my key" feature or remote start or anything. I'm looking at just getting 2 of the standard "Integrated Keyhead Transmitters", just the key with the built-in unlock remote.
