Acting. Should I just go for it?

Im 24. Is that too old? I love watching films and TV series. I have always been interested in how they act. I think to myself, i could do that, maybe better. I love the determination, technique and dedication required for the craft. I have always wanted to be involved in the making of a film or a TV show. Early this year, whilst still deciding (still am) what to do a few months after graduating with a degree in History and Politics, I starred in my first play with a few small parts. I loved that I was doing something new and what I love. However, I have heard that performing in front of a camera is different. Is that true? I think I would enjoy it more, and be better at it. I don't have to shout to be heard, like on stage, I can act. Problem is, actors in Britain start young by going to RADA or LAMDA, like In McKellen, who is from near where I live. All my idols are actors: Jack Nicholson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood etc. I can't find a way to copy them. But, should I just go for it, or is it an impossible and unrealistic dream?
