I have a 1999 Ford Escort SE and I've had it for about a year now. It's in pretty good condition besides the muffler which makes a lot of noise and needs repair. But aside from that, I was driving home tonight and heard a pop noise, sort of like a balloon popping. I originally thought I popped a tire but then my car started to slow down and eventually died. I'm still unsure as to what exactly is wrong with it. My father and no one else is able to determine and I'm unable to drive it to a mechanic. I'm still able to turn the lights on and off, roll the windows up and down and turn the radio on. Whenever I try to start the car, I just get the rr-rrrr-rrrr sound but it fails to actually start. After it died, the batter light with a ( - + ) sign in it popped up and so did, I'm assuming, the oil light showed up. I don't think it's the alternator or starter and we tried charging it and it still didn't start. I don't know if I should have charged it for longer since last time my car died, we had to charge it for about an hour before it started. But has this ever happened or has anyone ever heard of this happening? And if so, what I can do to get it fixed! I would love to at least have an idea since I have to wait a week to get it looked at. I'd really appreciate it!
