Can I have a specific dealership bring in a used car from another dealership?

There is a particular pre-owned car I would like but unfortunately, the dealership I would like to use does not currently have it in their inventory.

I've bought from this dealership before and I'm positively enamored with the customer service I received with my last car. Hence, my desperate want to buy from them again.

So, my question is: Can my favorite dealership look at local dealerships for the car I want and somehow sell it to me? I've heard of dealerships trading cars before but I didn't know if that only applied to dealerships under the same name or brand or what have you. Has anyone done this before?
Any info is very much appreciated!
Added (1). For example: Can a Cadillac dealership trade with a Ford or a Nissan dealer?
