What is a great first car?

I'm lookin to spend around $2000.00 on a car but can't find a good one. I'm looking at a Saturn, Ford Focus, Honda Civic. Any suggestions? This will be my first car. I have about 1k saved up and I'm going to be working over the summer for the rest so I'm looking to get a car in the fall/early winter. Thanks!
