2001 Ford Focus SOHC 2.0 failure after putting gas from 76?

So today I stopped by to get some gas I put 10 bucks of regular gas and then went to start her up and lo and behold I heard a sound like there are rocks inside the engine (rattling) than done now if i try to start it up nothing grabs. You can hear something spinning and that's it. Although I know these engines are prone to failure I am wondering if gas had anything to do with it is that even possible? IF not WHY then did it go out as soon as I put gas into it?!
Added (1). Thanks a bunch. What coincidence though. Was running perfectly before hand.
