Should I buy a new or used car?

I am planning on trading my car in for a Ford F250 and im not sure if it would be better for me to spend $35k on a used one with 40k-70k miles that may or may not have exactly what want or a $50k for a brand new one that is customized to my liking and havs less that 1000 miles on it. What do y'all think?
Added (1). Edit: I need a truck so I can haul my family's boat to the lake and the hog trailer to show and the the sale barn.
