93 Ford Explorer stuttering and stalling when it warms up?

This has been going on for a while and we're getting pretty desperate for a fix.

Our 93 Ford Explorer XLT started not responding to the gas pedal--you could step on it all you wanted and it would barely respond.

We have in no particular order:

1. Spark plugs and wires
2. MAF
3. Gutted the catalytic converter
4. One or two other parts I can't remember, will update when my husband gets home

It's OBD I and throwing codes related to airflow, however, we have not checked the codes since we gutted the catalytic converter.

Since gutting the cat, it will be semi-okay if you don't push the pedal to the floor but it stalls if you DO push it to the floor.
Added (1). I forgot to mention, the car seems to make "fart noises" too, as my husband describes them. Like it's trying to get something out.
Added (2). I also forgot to add that the problems got worse when the car is at operating warmth. When starting up it wasn't as bad but it gets worse when it warms up.
