Is a 2008 Ford F-150 SXT a good, reliable truck?

Theres one at a local dealership for $9,999 CDN. It has the V8 in it and has 127458 KM on it. I'd get my uncle whos a mechanic (does safeties and has had his journey man's since like 25 and is now almost 40, so no saying he isnt) to look at it. Would it make as a good upgrade for a 16 year old that has a 99 Grand AM SE? Or would it be more sensible to get a 2011 Impala LS with 134 854 km and a V6 for the same price?
Only thing turning me off is the fact that my current car is 16 years old and has 189xxxkm on it and is starting to have problems, and these vehicles are considerably newer but with aprox. 55000 KM less.
