1995 ford bronco trains troubles?

I recently bought a 1995 ford bronco. Now the trans has been shifting really hard into every gear and even down shifts hard. It doesn t have this problem every time but when it is doing it you know. Also when the bronco starts to shift real hard the overdrive switch on the shifter will have a flashing off light. When I try to press the switch it doesn t do anything. I don t know much about transmissions and have no idea what is causing the truck to shift hard. So if someone knows what is going on if you could please tell me, Thanks
