2004 Ford ranger main headlights dim?

Today i bought a 2004 Ford Ranger and i just drove it to work at night and on my way here i noticed that the headlights are dim. Every other light seems to work fine and i have been having battery issues as the truck doesnt quite want to start but it does still anyways. I just dont want to make a habit of driving with my brights and and am hoping someone will have a solution.
