2001 Ford Escape runs bad?

I have a 2001 Ford Escape. It cuts out if I push the gas pedal more then a half inch, but if I ease it down it runs smooth. I have replaced the plugs, some vac lines, the PCV, TPS,AIC and checked the gas for water. Before all this I took it to Ford, and was told it had water in the gas and needed plugs. Ford wanted $1000 to fix it. Plugs took me less than 1/2 hour and the gas is clean. Does anyone on here have any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks.
