How does gear shifting work on a 2002 Ford Explorer?

I'm buying one soon and I noticed that the gear handle is by the steering wheel instead of down by the glove compartment. The transmission is automatic, but I've never driven a car with the gear by the steering wheel. Do I pull it down to drive or to go in reverse? Can someone please explain how the shifting works? Sorry if it sounds dumb but I'm not used to it. Thank you xoxo
