How much do car paint jobs cost?

My step-dad(of 5 years) is giving me his first car. It's a 1990 Ford Thunder. It's decent but the paint job is crap. The gloss layer is peeling off in big pieces and there's a lot of scratches. All I want is a solid black or silver paint job. How much would that cost. And I'm on a low budget. $300-400
