My car is acting up, is there any way to fix it?

I drive a 2004 Ford focus, and I sarted hearing a weird squeeking sound, and then the AC stops blowing cold. The squeeking then got EXTREMELY LOUD AND SHRILL, and then there was a whitish cloud of whitish smoke/fog that came from the front of the car. There was a loud HISS accompanying the white smoke.

After this happened the car became extremely hard to steer, and the engine temp guage rapidly rose. The engine then started running extremely rough, and eventually gave out.

What actually went wrong here, and how much might it cost to fix?
Added (1). When the engine died the car was shaking and like making a boiling sound and spouting off steam from the engine,. The engine was spouting off all sorts of white smoke before it died while I was trying to limp home. What were all these strange emissions from the car, could I easily fix it?
