Will I require surgery for this injury?

I was involved in a severe accident on 4/14/2018. I was rear ended when at a stop by a Dodge Dakota and pushed into on coming traffic and front ended by a Ford F150. I sustained a few injuries as well as my brother. I had a follow up with my doctor and he found and I quote what he said " A minimally displaced fracture of the left thumb near the carpometacarpal joint. No other fractures are seen and joint spaces are normal." I have another appointment set up with an Orthopedic but am wondering if I will have to under go surgery. I read articles of people with the same injury who had to under go surgery. Please help me if you have any type of information.
