I got a new job recently about 2 hours away. About 60 miles of the drive includes windy country roads that i have been told are either never plowed or half plowed in the winter. I am also looking into a few other job opportunities in the same area so i may have 2 jobs in that area. Moving isn't an option either for my wife and I and i really don't mind the commute. Its located around the middle of Missouri so sometimes we get a lot of snow in the winter, but other times there isn't too much. This past winter my 2010 ford focus with front wheel drive did not do very well in the snow, but i have since then replaced the tires. I had a truck before my current car and it always did good in the snow. I am considering getting a truck with 4 wheel drive again that way i will not have any issues getting to work during the winter. I would also like to have a truck for the convenience of hauling things and possibly towing in the future. My current car only has about 8 more payments until it is paid off and gets on average 34 mpg while traveling to work. Those are the only reasons making me hesitate on getting the truck. What do you all think i should do? Should i keep my car or sell it and get a truck with 4 wheel drive?
Added (1). Unfortunately having 3 cars between the 2 of us is not an option either and i'm really not interested in an SUV. I just don't know if the bad weather is enough to start over again on a car payment and get worse gas mileage.
