Manual transmission noise?

So I just bought a 2003 ford focus svt. The shifter when moved makes a weird clunking noise even if the car is off with or without the clutch applied. I believe it to be the linkage. Hoping some one can shed some light on this. Also wanting to know if anyone has ever owned an svt and if they liked it.
