What are some upgrades I can make to my car?

I have a 2012 Ford Focus SEL hatchback. I really don't know much about cars and I am wanting to make some upgrades, like performance and visual. I know a lot of people upgrade the exhaust system, is that something I should consider? Any ideas or good websites would be greatly appreciated.
