I'd like to travel one night to Palm Desert/Springs or a surrounding city this summer (2017). What is the best time (day/month) to rent a car for lowest rates, ie a Ford Focus or similar? Prefer major company. Same goes for hotel: between end of this June and early August, so reservations can be made at least 2 months prior. Best Western hotel or similar hotel is my preference, near a shopping mall and well-reviewed family-style restaurants serving nice-sized portions. Free parking, usual amenities (pool, gym), quiet area. If there's a Marriott offering good specials during this period, I would accept $80 a night. Car rental rate: $30-40/day, including taxes, liability, etc. No prepaid reservations.
