Lifting a 1998 V6 Ford F150?

Hey you guys. So I'm just getting into the truck thing, and in looking to buy a 1998 Ford F-150. My question is: If I want to put an 8 inch lift on the truck. &a bigger tires. What all would I need to do on the truck? Everything is stock.
I'm thinking 37 inch tires once I lift it but will look too small?
