Has anyone else had problems with python security systems in their vehicle?

I purchased a ford ranger that ran like crap and had network fault codes out the ying yang. I scratched my head for a few seconds and talked it over with my friend and he climbed under the dash to have a peak and low and behold there was the biggest mess of wires and the sh*tiest wiring/soldering job I had ever seen and right smack in the middle was a little black box with the name python on it. Me and a ase certified friend got to work cutting the mess out and rewiring the damn thing. Now she runs like a champ. Has anyone else had issues with the confounded mess of aftermarket security?
